What does it mean when bath and body works says they’re going to call my references?

I just recently got an interview at Bath & Body Works last Thursday. On Sunday the manager called me and said they were interested in me and they will be calling my references. Also that they will have an answer for me this Friday.
Is there a possibility that I got the job or that I might get it?
Also what can I expect after they check my references?
Should I call before this Friday or let them call me?

Help please I really want this job…

In my experience with retail jobs, checking your references is the LAST step in the interviewing process, so I think you might get the job if your references say good things about you.
